Cropped T-Shirt
"The doves in my artwork originated from southwestern Pueblo pottery designs. Santo Domingo potters painted various animals onto the pots, and birds became one of my favorites. I wanted to create my own southwestern bird design with my mosaic style, and the doves came to be."

Mary Louise Tafoya, born and raised on the Kewa Pueblo (formerly known as Santo Domingo Pueblo) in northern New Mexico, is a master of mosaic jewelry. Raised in a family of distinguished jewelry makers, Mary’s artistry is rooted in a cultural heritage specific to her Pueblo. For centuries, craftspeople from Kewa Pueblo traded their jewelry which incorporated shells, turquoise and jet. Mary hand cuts each of the materials and combines them to create her whimsical interpretations of the natural world. Lorenzo Tafoya, Mary’s husband, creates the silver work in her jewelry.
