"Many remote places on the reservation inspire me. One of them is Sunset Mesas, north of Leupp, Arizona, my father called it where the children sit. He pointed out shapes in the mesas that looked like children gathered to hear a story. You can’t see that in a photo; you must stand there and feel it." The community is sparse, with little visible vegetation, but the sand and mesas glow with incredible shades of burnt ochre. At sunrise or sunset, the light transforms the land into something overwhelming in its beauty. I can never get enough of how natural light reveals and reshapes this place.
